Is local community service important for you? Are you interested in the issues of migration, hospitality and refugee crisis? Then we would like to welcome you to the ERUA Social Engagement Project!
This project is based on an innovative form of pedagogy that combines the learning objectives of university courses with local community service. Participants will start with a theoretical module, during which they develop knowledge and reflection on the topic. Later they will get practical experience in the field, nourished from their newly gained knowledge.
All students from ERUA universities (BA/MA/PhD) interested in the topics of migration and hospitality can apply.
The first part of the project will take place from 28th June to 2nd July 2023 at the New Bulgarian University (Sofia, Bulgaria). To attend this module, all students will receive travelling and accommodation funding. During the week at the New Bulgarian University, you will attend courses on migration/hospitality and social engagement that will prepare you to go in the field. After this week, you will be ready to start your volunteering experience in a relevant association/structure.
Aside from the courses, you will have the chance to meet students from different countries and discover the city of Sofia!
Be aware that if you decide to apply, you engage in the whole project (the theoretical module at the university and the volunteering experience).
Where and when can you volunteer?
You can develop a volunteering project in any association/social structure related to the topics of migration and hospitality in the country where your home university is located. During the application phase, you are requested to shortly present your volunteering project and, if approved, you will have to provide proof of acceptance from an association/structure.
If you have difficulties finding a place to volunteer, the ERUA team in each university will be there to help you.
Once the theoretical module is completed, you can start right after or wait for the beginning of the academic year (to be decided together with your home university).
Follow-up meetings will be organised to accompany you in the experience and reflect together with the other students.
ECTS: All students who will join this project (courses and volunteering experience) and complete the validation requirement (reflection paper) will get minimum 3 ECTS (depending on home university
rules).
